My Mom Is 69-Year-Old & She Sews Her Own Thimble For Sashiko (Upcycling Jeans)

I invited my 69-year-old mother who used to run a garment factory back in the 90s—to step in front of the camera and teach me how she sews a traditional handmade cloth thimble using upcycled denim jeans. Drawn to the Japanese philosophy of Wabi-Sabi, mending, and Sashiko embroidery, I wanted to learn my mother's lifelong tailoring craft. We took a pair of old jeans my brother can no longer wear and gave them a completely new life. Watch as we walk through the step-by-step process of crafting a custom DIY fabric thimble with a hidden coin inside. I hope this inspires you to look at old textiles differently. In my upcoming video, I'll be sharing a thimble that is uniquely my own version.
