MOST CORRUPT SERIES: Idi Amin | The Butcher | Forgotten History
Idi Amin was a Ugandan military officer and dictator who ruled the country from 1971 to 1979 after seizing power in a coup. Known as the “Butcher of Uganda,” his regime became infamous for extreme brutality, corruption, and human rights abuses. Amin expelled the country’s Asian population in 1972, a move that crippled Uganda’s economy, while his secret police carried out mass killings, with estimates of deaths ranging from 100,000 to 500,000 during his rule. Despite his violent reign, he cultivated an eccentric and flamboyant public image, giving himself grandiose titles and making bizarre political statements that drew international attention. His regime collapsed in 1979 after a war with Tanzania, forcing him into exile in Saudi Arabia, where he lived quietly until his death in 2003. History is replete with many national leaders who are described as tyrants and totalitarian despots, and the continent of Africa has had more than its share. However, there are a select few of these leaders who have earned the description of psychopath for actions that go far and beyond the iron rule they imposed upon their people to maintain power. President Idi Amin Dada Oumee of Uganda was one of these madmen and he ruled Uganda from 1971 to 1979. Hosted by Colin D. Heaton.
