WILD EAST BEASTS - Cattle Market | Philippines

I had heard about a cattle market in our neighboring community of Bacong, Negros Oriental, Philippines. We went there on a Saturday to find out which day the cattle market was being held. We were told that the cattle market was on Sunday and Monday, with Monday being the busiest day. So we got up at 5am on Monday morning and set off at 5:30am to be there at around 6am. There were already a lot of trucks spread out around a square and in the middle stood and walked the owners with their carabaos and cattle. The first sales talks were held. The large Brahman cattle are impressive. We had a lot of Philippine experience on this kind of Philippine market for cattle, waterbuffalo (Carabao), horse, swine and goat. A scale is part of the cattle market, where the animals are weighed for 20 pesos. On the other side of the street there is another square where horses, bills and goats are traded in addition to the water buffaloes and cattle. There are simple, very rustic carinderias on the outskirts, where many an ice-cold beer runs down the throat after a successful trade and many a song is belted out at a karaoke. There are also a few traders with agricultural tools such as machetes and ropes. Meanwhile, a number of traders with food and agricultural products have also set up store on the village street, hoping to do good business.
