Originally Recorded 7/19/2025 © 2025 Brandon Mendel | Reuse allowed with permission only As part of a long term effort to record a siren in as many states as possible, I decided to finally check out Moore, Oklahoma and find out what the fuss was about. This system has been on my bucket list forever, and it definitely doesn’t disappoint. The coverage here is literally insane. While the new sirens are technically replacements to the old ones, the legacy system still gets run as backup. The result is multiple sirens overlapping in coverage making it hard to miss an activation, especially while outdoors. It’s not uncommon to find a Thunderbolt, then a mod within sight of each other. You can find this siren duo at Permele Park. The Thunderbolt is located behind Fire Station 2 while the 508 is on the other side of the park on Janeway Avenue. From my understanding, the Thunderbolt will remain in service until it basically falls apart. Their legacy system was mostly Thunderbolts, 2T22s, and a couple Hurricanes even. Though the Hurricanes are long gone. Like many areas around the OKC metro, sirens in Moore are audibly tested every Saturday at Noon while silent tests are run twice a day.
