It's Foggy - Will We Make It Back to Portsmouth Safely?
The final part of our sailing UK trip to the West Country. We leave Portland Port Marina, early to catch the flood tide, in my Westerly Ocean Quest Sailing Yacht, and make a fast passage from Portland to Portsmouth. But despite our excellent passage planning, we were plagued with foggy conditions all along the Dorset coast, round St Albans head, Anvil Point and into the Needles Channel. This made for some tense sailing and having to use our Fog Horn for the first time in anger. Once in the Solent we sailed towards Portsmouth in strengthening winds, avoided the 100 strong Morgan Cup racing fleet leaving Cowes, Isle of Wight and then enjoyed sailing a downwind dash to our home mooring in the Royal Clarence marina in Gosport, Portsmouth Harbour.
