There's No English Word for What We Found

In Spain, there’s a word for what happens after the food is gone — when nobody moves, nobody reaches for their phone, nobody asks for the check. It’s called sobremesa. Literally: over the table. There’s no English word for it. We don’t think that’s a coincidence. We spent decades eating in cars, at desks, on the go — because the meal was never really the point. Spain changed that for us. Here’s what we figured out about why, and what it made us notice about the life we were living before. About us We're Cliff and Cheryl — married 30 years, living in Marbella, Spain. We make videos about what this life is teaching us, and what it's making us question about the one we had before.
