Mayo Clinic Minute - Why is your arm sore after a flu shot?

A flu shot can't give you the flu, but it can, and often does, cause arm soreness. Dr. Jesse Bracamonte, a Mayo Clinic family medicine physician, says it's a common side effect of the flu shot and other vaccinations. "You can have a little bit of swelling, a little bit of redness, definitely achiness. These are all common," says Dr. Bracamonte. "Most of the time, it lasts about two or three days."
