In this video, we show you what to see in Split, which attractions are worth including on your first trip, and which places around Split are best combined into one itinerary. We'll visit Diocletian's Palace, the old town, Riva, Marjan Hill, beaches, Salona, Klis Fortress, Trogir, and Omiš with its Cetina River canyon. We begin our tour of Split on Riva, the seaside promenade located right next to the walls of the former Diocletian's Palace. This is the most recognizable part of the city, offering views of the Adriatic Sea, the port, boats, and the buildings of the old center. From here, we move on to the historic heart of Split, where the former residence of a Roman emperor has transformed over the centuries into a living city. Split's most important attraction is Diocletian's Palace, one of the best-preserved Roman complexes on the Adriatic. The video shows the Golden Gate, the statue of Gregory of Nin, the Peristyle, the Egyptian Sphinx, the Cathedral of St. The Dujama, the vestibule, the basement of Diocletian's Palace, and the former Temple of Jupiter, later converted into a baptistery. It's here that you can best see what makes Split so unique—walking through the former imperial palace, which has become a part of everyday life in the city. In Split, we also visit National Square and Fruit Square, where we can see later layers of history, Venetian influences, old townhouses, the town hall, the Venetian tower, and the monument to Marek Marulić. After exploring the old town, we head towards the fishing port, marina, and Sustipan Park, perched on a cliff above the Adriatic Sea. One of the best viewpoints in Split is Marjan Hill. This green part of the city boasts a pine forest, walking paths, and panoramic views of the Adriatic Sea, the port, islands, and the rooftops of the old center. At the foot of Marjan lies Veli Varoš, one of Split's oldest districts, dotted with stone houses, steps, narrow streets, and quieter alleys. Split is also a good base for exploring Dalmatia. A few kilometers from the center lies Solin, home to the ruins of ancient Salona, the former capital of Roman Dalmatia. The extensive archaeological site offers remains of city walls, thermal baths, early Christian churches, ancient burial grounds, and a Roman amphitheater. Another site near Split is Klis Fortress, perched high above the city. It once controlled the road leading from the coast into Dalmatia, and today it attracts visitors primarily with views of Split, Solin, the Adriatic Sea, and the surrounding mountains. Fans of "Game of Thrones" may also recognize Klis Fortress, as it appeared in the series as part of Meereen. From Split, we also travel to Trogir, one of the most beautiful towns in Dalmatia. Trogir's old town lies on a small island and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We stroll through the stone streets, pass through the historic gates, and admire the Cathedral of St. Lawrence with its portal by Master Radovan, the city loggia, Cippiko Palace, the clock tower, and the Kamerlengo Fortress on the waterfront. Finally, we visit Omiš, situated at the mouth of the Cetina River into the Adriatic Sea. This city is known for its pirate past, the river canyon, the mountains rising above the buildings, and two fortresses: Mirabela and Fortica. From the viewpoints, you can see Omiš, the Adriatic Sea, the Cetina canyon, and the surrounding islands. It's also a popular destination for Cetina River cruises, rafting, and ziplining. If you're planning a vacation to Croatia, a trip to Dalmatia, or a short stay in Split, this video will help you plan your route. We show you the most important attractions in Split, interesting places in the surrounding area, and ideas for day trips from Split.
