Safety Instrumented System (SIS) (Part-20)

A safety instrumented system (SIS) takes automated action to keep a plant in a safe state, or to put it into a safe state, when abnormal conditions are present. The SIS may implement a single function or multiple functions to protect against various process hazards in your plant. Safety Instrument Systems are control systems that take the process to a safe state in terms of conditions that may be hazardous or could eventually give rise to a hazard if no action were taken. They perform “safety instrumented functions” by acting to prevent the hazard or mitigating the consequences. #SafetyInstrumentedSystem #SIS #SIL #LogicSolver The goal of the Safety Instrument System is to reduce the risk of accident or injury. The SIS is only one of many layers of protection that a plant uses to safeguard the process, equipment, personnel, and the community. But when implemented correctly, it can provide a very large reduction in the overall risk profile.
