"Why don't any professional footballers come out?" This question is ever-present when the topic of homosexuality comes up. Thomas Hitzlsperger is, so far, the only German professional footballer to have come out... and that was almost 10 years ago. He tries to lead by example to open doors. I spoke with him about the last remaining taboo in football: How did he deal with it? Why are role models so important in this case? And: What's the situation like in other countries?
