The new Peugeot 508 is an amazing estate car: The ultimate Peugeot 508 Review & Road test
Despite the huge success of the Peugeot 3008 and 5008 SUVs, in general, sales of SUVs are starting to slow down. This is primarily due to buyers now having more environmental concerns. So now they are turning to estate cars and in particular, the new Peugeot 508 Station Wagon. It kind of makes sense when you think about it, as an estate car is typically lighter than an SUV and has a smaller frontal area. This is where the 508SW offers a different type of 'premium' whilst also appealing to the so-called mainstream market which, as far as estate cars are concerned, is nowadays probably no bigger than the premium one anyway. The 508 offers new crisp looks, credible quality, decent driving dynamics and an impressive equipment list. Peugeot, like several other manufacturers, reckons that estate cars in this size class are bought as much for reasons of style as for practicality, which is why its cargo space is actually less than in the Peugeot 308 SW from the size class below. Much greater rear legroom and a low roofline are the reasons. As far as passengers are concerned, the SW has a cabin thats a lot airier, so the rear occupants feel less hemmed-in and the driver gets a better view behind through a bigger rear window. There are two 1.6-litre, turbocharged petrol engines of 179 or 221bhp, a 1.5-litre turbo diesel with 129bhp and a 2.0-litre turbo diesel with 161 or 179bhp. All come with an eight-speed automatic transmission; the smaller diesel, alone, can also be had with a six-speed manual. Whichever version you choose, the car comes with loads of standard and optional safety systems, which include Night Vision, which uses infra-red radiation to spot pedestrians in the sensors' line of sight and a very good lane-keeping system. The Peugeot 508 SW is an extremely attractive looking estate car and is instantly recognisable among its German rivals. It matches them for cabin quality and driving abilities, beats most of them for standard equipment and undercuts them on price, ranging from £26,000 to £36,000 inc VAT. The 508 SW has dared to be different and we think it pulls it off admirably. Hope you enjoyed this video! New videos now coming every week.
