WHAT IS REBAR Fiber reinforced plastic rebar has emerged as a promising material to enhance the corrosion resistance of reinforced concrete structures. The FRP rebar made of glass fiber and polyester resin. These bars have helical depression and sand particle depression. The helical winding makes impression into the bar during the fabrication process. It is a very good material to be used with concrete because it has good corrosion resistance in aggressive environments. Also it is lightweight. Fiber reinforced composite materials consists of fibers of high strength and modulus embedded in or bonded to a matrix with distinct interfaces between them. In general, fibers are the principal load carrying members. The current fiber reinforced composite rods are made by the Rebar pultrusion process. It is a continuous molding process for producing long, straight members of constant cross-section area. Rebar by combining the Pultrusion process and an in-line winding & coating process for the outside sand surface. The FRP composite rebar is made from high strength glass fibers along with an extremely durable vinyl ester resin. The glass fibers impart strength to the rod while the vinyl ester resin imparts excellent corrosion resistance properties in harsh chemical and alkaline environments. For improved stiffness and mechanical properties a carbon/vinyl ester or Epoxy product is also available. FRP rebar significantly improves the longevity of civil engineering structures where corrosion is a major factor.
