How To Remove Tile Shower Without Destroying The Bathroom
How to remove a tile shower Tools needed Safety equipment, phillips screwdriver, hammer and utility knife. Reciprocating saw can be helpful as well. In this video I’m going to show you how we take out an existing tile shower. We’ll start by removing the shower door and faucet, then removing the tile shower. This shower has a fiberglass shower pan, removing a tile pan will be similar (although much heavier). Removing a sliding glass door enclosure is pretty straightforward. Start by removing the door guide, located inside the shower at the bottom of the doors. The guide will be close to the center of the bottom track. Typically a phillips head screw is used for the installation. Once the guide is removed the door panels can be lifted out of the track. Simply pull the door towards the inside of the shower and lift the rollers off the track. Start by removing the inner door, then the outer door. In most cases once the doors are removed the top rail will also be able to come out. Take it out now. Remove the screws from the side track pieces on each side. Cut through the silicone and remove the side tracks. The bottom track will just pry off from here. This shower has a Delta faucet. Removing the faucet handle is pretty simple. There’s a plastic piece covering the screw that holds the handle in place. A flat head screwdriver will pop off the plastic piece and give you access to the screw. Remove the screw while holding the faucet handle. If the handle turns, you will take a shower. Once the handle is removed you can then remove the escutcheon by taking out the escutcheon screws. Once the handle and escutcheon is removed we just have to take out the shower head. The shower head arm will unscrew from the wall. Usually a tool isn’t required, but channel locks or a pipe wrench may be necessary. Our new tile shower is being installed to the ceiling, so we will remove the existing walls to the ceiling. If you aren’t planning your installation to go that high, cut the wall board at the height you’re planning to install to. We use a utility knife to cut through the tape joint at the ceiling. We then use a multi tool to cut through the sheet rock on each side of the tile. We pull the sheetrock and tile down together. It’s less messy and fewer trips in and out. This shower pan has a rubber friction piece that was installed incorrectly. Remove the rubber piece and the drain is loose from the shower base. Simply lift the shower base out and you’re done.
