《茶道点前集》立礼 点茶盤 薄茶点前 Sadou [Japanese Tea Ceremony]（裏千家）

In conjunction with the Kyoto Exposition held at the beginning of the Meiji era, the 11th head of the Urasenke school, Gengensai Koji, devised the tachirei (tea tray) to give people overseas an opportunity to experience tea. It consists of a tea tray that serves as the tatami mat, a tea rack that serves as the table, and a round chair. The tea ceremony is performed using a furo kettle and a complete set of utensils including a water jar, a ladle stand (a tool for holding the ladle and fire tongs), a water pitcher, and a lid rest. The tea ceremony procedure is the same as on tatami mats, but as both the host and guest can sit on the round chairs, it is an approachable style of tea ceremony suited to a new era, even for those who are unable to sit in seiza or are not used to it.
