Down Firing VS Front Firing Subwoofers (What REALLY Matters!!)

Down Firing and Front Firing subs have some differences, but what matters most has little to do with the subwoofer itself... If you can stomp on your floor and the floor itself makes a big sound (pretty hard to do on concrete) then the decision to go down firing vs front firing becomes more important. You guys with concrete are less impacted. Again, I'm not against down firing subs, there are many on "The List" of subwoofers that I would actually buy, but floors would impact the final decision: http://www.subwoofer101.com/best-subw... That said, I'm just looking to arm you with as much information as I can to help you decide which way to go. Cylinder subs take up less floor space, but also have a significant visual impact. Down firing subs can shake the room more on a wood floor, which might be a desirable effect if you can tame rattles. Again, the point about reflection is purely speculative, and tests would need to be performed in an inert room (concrete floor at a minimum to avoid influence) to really hash that out. If there is a difference, it is likely of very little significance.
