Universal UK Resort: 2,000 Years Buried Beneath the Site

Universal Studios Bedford is coming — and this is what the site looks like before the ground moves. The UK's first Universal theme park will occupy 268 hectares of former brickworks in Marston Vale, Kempston Hardwick, south-west of Bedford. But there's a reason the diggers are waiting. Before mass grading can begin at Universal United Kingdom Resort, SDO Condition 15 requires a full archaeological programme across the entire site. What's buried under those Bedfordshire clay fields? Iron Age settlements, Roman field systems, cremation burials, and the earthwork remains of a medieval moated manor. Two thousand years of history has to be fully recorded before the £6 billion Bedford theme park project can break ground at scale. This is the "before" footage — taken 11 days after the resort's name was announced at Eleven Downing Street on 3 June 2026. The SDO (Special Development Order) was approved in December 2025, making Universal UK Resort the first European Universal theme park to receive consent. Opening target: 2031. This is episode 2 of our Universal coverage. -- CHAPTERS -- 0:00 What you can see right now 1:30 The land — and what's buried in it 2:25 How it got approved 4:30 What is actually happening 7:40 What comes next 9:00 The before shot — Related Above Bedfordshire episodes — Land South of Wixams:    • 375 Homes Refused: What the Land South of ...   Universal United Kingdom Resort:    • Inside Universal's £50bn UK Theme Park Sit...   Filmed with DJI Mini 3 Pro | Music by Suno AI #WixamsBedford #WixamsStation #UniversalStudiosUK #UniversalUK #BedfordBuilds #AboveBedfordshire #Bedfordshire #UKThemePark #NetworkRail #WixamsNewTown
