Electromagnetic Street Bon Dance Festival Performance Roppongi Hills Arena Lured by the nostalgic sound of festival music played by old household appliances, you’ll come upon this bon dance! Originally intended to mourn the ancestors, this ritual has been reinterpreted as the “Electromagnetic Street Bon Dance Festival”, a place to express reverence for “electricity,” the most indispensable element in modern times after fire, water, earth, and wind. Modern technology will intervene in the dance – a Japanese folk art with a long history – to create a space-time in which electricity, magnetism, and humans interact with indigenous rhythms and graceful movement. Performers: Ei Wada, Electromagnetic Festival Band, Remon Nakanishi, and nyantoko Electronicos Fantasticos! Led by the artist Wada Ei, this project brings together various collaborators to resurrect disused electrical appliances as new kinds of musical instruments that gradually form an orchestra. It is currently active in five cities in Japan and via an online laboratory as a participatory art project with close to a hundred members.
