The echoes of the Afghan War, in which at least 600,000 Soviet soldiers took part in the 1980s, are slowly fading. Reliable information about the participation and role of the Soviet armed forces in that war in Afghanistan remains scarce. While there is some media coverage of the limited participation of the USSR Armed Forces in that war, virtually nothing is known about the participation of border guards in combat operations in Afghanistan. Over the course of ten years, more than sixty thousand border guards served in Afghanistan. Few know that on January 6, 1980, near Badakhshan Province, border guards crossed the Panj River and took control of adjacent Afghan territory, where large groups of armed groups were concentrated. This border guard mission was classified. What exactly the border guards did can only be learned from those directly involved in those events. I want to share my impressions of the war and offer my vision of what politicians should do to ensure there are no more military conflicts in the world and how to rehabilitate war veterans so they are not forgotten by civil society in their countries.
