CROATIA: 35 VICTIMS OF FATAL PLANE CRASH RECOVERED

(6 Apr 1996) Natural Sound The bodies of all 35 victims of the fatal aircrash in Croatia , including the US Commerce Secretary Ron Brown , have now been recovered. The U-S military says the remains have been taken from the mountain-top crash site to a temporary mortuary at Dubrovnik airport. Meanwhile a team of Air Force experts from the U-S is expected in Croatia to help in the investigation. Amateur video taken shortly after the crash shows the extent of the damage. These pictures were shot 2-3 hours after the crash took place. This is what is left of the Boeing 737 that crashed into a hillside in Dubrovnik. Authorities say it will be at least another day before the bodies will be ready for return to the U-S. A team of Air Force experts have begun investigating the causes of the tragedy. Another team from the National Transportation Safety Board is also on its way to the site. U-S Defence Secretary William Perry says instrument failure is the probable cause of the air crash which killed U-S Commerce Secretary Ron Brown and 34 other people in Croatia.
