The Art of Living Deliberately - Does Thoreau's Great Experiment at Walden Pond Still Matter Today?
Henry David Thoreau's future was looking grim. In 1837, the same year he graduated from college, the economy collapsed. The "Panic of 1837" was one of the worst economic recessions in American history (said to be comparable in devastation to the Great Depression of the 1930s) and resulted in widespread societal and political turmoil. Just about everyone was struggling, stressed, and uncertain of the future. Bouncing between jobs, mired in doubt, it was difficult for Thoreau to see a way forward. In 1845, a friend advised Thoreau: "Go out…, build yourself a hut, and there begin the grand process of devouring yourself alive. I see no other alternative, no other hope for you." So he did. Fortunately for us, he wrote down what he learned. Filmed with Nikon Z6 II (Tamron 35-150mm) and DJI Osmo Pocket 3. Want to spend more time wandering the woods, as Thoreau recommended?
