(Alvor Prices) We begin at the marina in Alvor where the wind had really picked up along the promenade. The first restaurant we come across is Restinga Ria, a tapas and cocktail bar overlooking the water, followed by Café Na Ria serving pizzas, pastas, and fresh fish of the day. Heading up the steps we stop at Casa Do Rio for an elevated view across the marina — supposedly one of the best sunset spots in Alvor. As we move into the backstreets, there are restaurants everywhere. Ribeira seafood restaurant is first, followed by Ababuja with lunch specials from €12. Casa Da Mar next door is serving fresh fish of the day for €16, while opposite, Zé Morgadinho is busy with sardines priced at €10. Restaurant Sereia is offering a special lunch menu for €11.80, while Picador is serving lunch specials for €15.50. Climbing further uphill, the atmosphere becomes busier with a lovely Algarve vibe. A Lota is serving octopus stew for €19, while another small Portuguese restaurant nearby offers a three-course lunch for €14.95 — excellent value. Further along we pass Lusitânia restaurant, Guanabana serving brunch and frozen cocktails, Trattoria Italian restaurant with a €14.95 dish of the day, Tony’s Place, Beer & Co, and Pepperino Italian Eatery. Leinster House is serving English beer and cider, while on the next busy street Akbar restaurant has pork cheeks for €14. The Lyric is fairly busy as we head towards the church and Church Bar. Down one of the side streets it suddenly feels like Ireland, with Ryan’s Bar, O’Grady’s Bar, and Black Stove all close together. Facing that street is A Gruta, a lovely Portuguese restaurant serving fresh fish of the day. We eventually head back towards Intermarché, passing the sports centre and a large overnight campervan parking area only 200 metres from the marina. Further down the road is Quiosque Bar and a cluster of hotels with cafés, restaurants, and swimming pools nearby. Near Intermarché we find another busy group of bars and restaurants including Suíca Bar, Kashmir Indian restaurant, and finally Venue Bar where we finish the tour with a nice pint of Guinness.
