무상, 삶에 거창한 의미가 없어도 괜찮습니다 | 부처님 말씀
There are days when this thought suddenly crosses my mind. What am I living for right now? I spend the same day every day, eating, working, meeting people, worrying, falling asleep, and greeting the morning again. When I was young, it seemed like something great was waiting for me. I thought that someday my life, too, would take on a clear meaning, and that I would surely know someday why I was born, and what I should live for. But even as time passes, life is not as special as I thought. Days flow by similarly, I grow older little by little, my body is not what it used to be, and the dreams in my heart quietly shrink. At such times, a sense of emptiness settles in a corner of my heart. Even if I live diligently, I will eventually disappear. No matter how hard I try, I will eventually be forgotten. If good moments pass, people I loved leave, and if I must eventually let go of what I have now, what meaning does this life have? However, just because a sense of emptiness sets in, it does not mean that life is a failure. Just because there are days when you cannot find meaning in life, it does not mean that your life is wrong. In the teachings of the Buddha, impermanence is the truth that everything changes and passes away. What is born grows old, what is met partes, what blooms withers, and what begins heads toward an end. At first, these words may sound sad. However, impermanence is not a message meant to drive us to despair. It is wisdom that allows us to recognize what passes, so that we do not cling to it too heavily. Just because a flower blooms and then withers, it does not mean the flower was meaningless. Just because the sunset colors the sky for a moment and then vanishes, its light is not in vain. Life is the same. It is okay if it lacks grand significance. Even without great achievements, even without a story worthy of recognition, if you have lived today with a little less hatred, a little less attachment, and a little more awareness, there is a quiet meaning within that. In this video, we share how to view life with the wisdom of impermanence on days when life feels futile, or when your heart feels empty because you cannot find the meaning of life. Life does not necessarily have to be a grand story. It is not valuable only if it remains in someone's memory for a long time. Even if you do not receive applause, even if you do not become famous, even if you do not achieve great things, if you have cultivated a pure heart, even just a little, today, that life is not in vain. I hope that today’s message brings quiet comfort to those who feel life is futile, those whose hearts are empty because they cannot find the meaning of life, those who feel their lives are extraordinary, those who hate themselves thinking they have not lived an extraordinary life, and those who are simply enduring the day. On days when relationships and the mind are difficult, Light of Contemplation shares stories that illuminate life a little more clearly through the wisdom of the Buddha and insights into life.
