Bolsa Família: ministro afirma que 15 milhões de pessoas já superaram a pobreza por meio do programa

The Minister of Social Development, Assistance, Family and Fight against Hunger, Wellington Dias, stated that 5.1 million beneficiaries of the Bolsa Família program have already left the program since 2023, after increasing their family income. According to Dias, this represents direct assistance to approximately 15 million people. The statement, made this Monday (1) during the Alô Alô Brasil program on Rádio Nacional, contradicts the idea that beneficiaries would try to remain in the program indefinitely. The minister cited a series of studies to support the program's effectiveness. A survey by the Getulio Vargas Foundation (FGV) in partnership with the World Bank indicates that, among the first generation of beneficiaries — about 20 million Brazilians — approximately 70% have left poverty, mainly through education. In addition, data from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) indicate an improvement in the country's socioeconomic profile. According to the most recent announcement mentioned by the minister, Brazil has reached a Human Development Index (HDI) of 0.805, joining the group of countries with "very high" development.
