Moose March by the Hot Five Jazzmakers, Toronto
This clip shows the Hot Five Jazzmakers performing at the "Earlyjass Fest" in Strongsville in September 1995. "The Moose" is an old march composed in 1909 by P Hans Flath and it became popular among the traditional jazz fraternity when Bunk Johnson revived it in his 1942 recording. It is said it was named for one of the New Orleans marching Societies. The band here consists of Charlie Gall - trumpet; Janet Shaw - clarinet; Brian Towers - trombone/leader; Rainer Hunck - banjo; Colin Bray - string bass and Gary Scriven - drums. Our thanks to Bob Byler for filming this concert for us.
