The Magic of Spider-Man PS4's Opening

I liked the part where he said "it's spider time" and manned all over the place. Get 20% when buying G Fuel: https://www.gfuel.com/THATBOYAQUA My main channel @ThatBoyAqua Happy Monday Everyone! So a lot of people consider the first Marvel’s Spider-Man to be the best game in the Insomniac Spider-Man universe thus far, and I’m not here to debate that, BUT, I think one of the most overlooked aspects of why that game is so great is the opening. People always talk about the writing, and the gameplay, and yea what-ever dude; I think first impressions are important, and because Spider-Man PS4 hit us with an excellent first impression, it made everything else to come, that much sweeter. So today I want to break down why the opening was so good, and how the philosophy of Insomniac's openings applied to the other games in the series, to better or worse degrees. Now, before we analyse this opening, we need to understand the context going into Marvel’s Spider-Man, as the games that preceded it, and the general Spider-Man landscape, was very different. When trying to make a killer intro, we need to understand the audience, so take a trip with me to a dark, and sauceless past... to the amazing Spider-Man 2. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 was a movie that was generally panned by critics, audiences, and comic book lovers when it released in 2014. Now, these days it has seen wider appreciation by people because in comparison to other spider-man films, it has some great strengths like the CGI being stellar, and the first 15 minutes being some of the best spidey art to date, but let’s not pretend like the initial reception to this movie was anything to brag about.*montage* Unfortunately, the game fared much worse. montage So, I feel a bit more qualified to speak on The Amazing Spider-Man 2 game because I actually played it extensively as, for most of the Playstation 4's lifespan, it was the only Spider-Man game available, and due to a kind of Stockholm syndrome, I liked it a lot. However, looking back, it did nearly everything that the first Amazing Spider-Man did, but significantly worse. I have videos covering both those games on my main channel, so I’ll spare the retreading, but the point is that this game was a stinker, and wasn’t even that uncommon considering the panned releases of Spider-Man 3, Spider-Man Friend or Foe, and Spider-Man Web of Shadows. Now, I hear you; Aqua those are great games, and yea, I hear you pal, but those metacritic scores are nothing to write home about. And while I think games like Web of Shadows were treated far too harshly, I can’t understate how grim Spider-Man felt during this time, especially when Rocksteady were on a generational run with the Arkham games. If Spider-Man was going to make a comeback, it needed to come back hard, and Insomniac was just the people for the job. When the teaser for Marvel’s Spider-Man dropped, fans were hopeful but there was definitely some skepticism. We haven’t had a genuinely banger Spider-Man game since Spider-Man 2 and Ultimate Spider-Man, and while Shattered Dimensions was great, it didn’t scratch the open world itch, a genre that felt made for spider-man. Also, what the hell is that? Personally, I knew a lot of people that weren’t too hot on the white spider and generally new look for Spidey. I think a lot of this comes down to people being tired of new takes on characters. I think, when a character gets popular enough, like Spider-Man, so many artists and creators want to put “their spin” on things, and while I think that very often leads to success, it also just as often leads to failure. If we have enough new interpretations coming at once, we can run into a character that feels too disconnected from its roots. A new Spider-Man in this case could be good, but it’s not what we need right now. I think a great example is Venom in Spider-Man 2. Sure, it was cool to see a different take on Venom, but it’s been so long since we’ve seen Eddie Brock, and the classic Venom character in a Spider-Man centric game, so it’s hard to be excited for a new take, when old reliable feels forgotten about. spider-man has a ton of great video games but spider-man ps4, otherwise known as marvel's spider-man, is probably the best. I've covered plenty of spider-man ps4 secrets and done my best to provide a good spiderman ps4 analysis as part of a general series wide marvel's spider-man analysis. When attemping to explain marvels spiderman, we have to look at the marvels spider-man story, and specifically within this spiderman ps4 story, I want to focsu on the marvel's spider-man intro, as I believe it to be soemthing that is often overlooked.
