The killing of #mahsaamini: Iranian women protest in Istanbul

Hundreds of Iranian and Turkish women protested against the Iranian regime, they hold responsible for the death of Masha Amini, a 22 year old Iranian woman. Amini reportedly died in police custody - she was detained by Iran's Guidance Patrol, commonly referred to as “morality police” for not wearing her hijab properly. The women gathered in front of the Consulate General of The Islamic Republic of Iran on Wednesday under heavy police presence. Protesters voiced their dissent, cut their hair and chanted "Down with Raisi." Medyascope was on the scene. Masha Amini died in police custody 3 days after her detention. The police had said that she had suffered a heart attack and suddenly fell to the ground. But leaked medical scans of Amini indicated that she had suffered cerebral hemorrhage and stroke. Eyewitnesses had reported that Amini was beaten and her head hit the side of the police vehicle as she was being taken into custody. A series of protests broke out over Amini's death on September 17th in Sanandaj, Amini’s home town. Soon after, the protests spread to multiple major cities in Iran and around the world. According to Georgetown Institute for Women, Peace and Security, Iran ranks 116 out of 153 countries for legal discrimination against women.
