The Key To Playing In Tune: Cello Handshapes!

Left Hand Right Hand Forum Month: June 2026 šŸŽµ The Key To Playing In Tune 🌹 Sometimes when I'm practicing and there is a problem happening... like it's just not sounding clean. I'm like darn! I'm focusing on the bow... focusing on the sound... and then... wait a minute -- it's not my bow arm... it's my left hand that is too slow so the sound isn't clean... and then I'm like -- phew! šŸ˜… I could've practiced on that all day and never fixed it... šŸ¤” If I experience this kind of trouble I'm guessing that you cellists out there do as well... That's why I created Right Hand Left Hand Forum Month — so you always know WHERE to look when something goes wrong. Is it a Right Hand Bow Arm problem? Or a Left Hand problem? Once you know that... you can actually fix it! šŸ™Œ In this video we are working on handshapes you need to master to play in tune: closed handshape (hold the baseball) extension handshape (point the squirt gun) Which hand are we working on here? Right hand or left hand? What do you think? Hello! Of course you know...it's left hand... šŸ¤” You'd be surprised by how many cellists out there are not sure which hand they are working on...and it's very important to identify WHERE the problem is and then focus on that and only that in order to correct it...and that is almost always...Right Hand or Left Hand? Hope you have fun with handshapes today and learn to nail your notes in both handshapes...all across the face of the cello... šŸ©·šŸ’ššŸ’œ Hey...if you like working with me...we are going to be doing more right hand left hand work in the upcoming Bach Prelude Cello Bootcamp.
