Christopher Clohessy is a South African-born Catholic priest and scholar of Islamic studies. He holds degrees in theology and Islamic studies from pontifical institutions in Rome, including a PhD from the Pontifical Institute for Arabic and Islamic Studies (PISAI), where he is Professor of Shīʿī Islamic Studies. He also lectures in Qurʾānic studies, Islamic ethics, theology and Christian–Muslim dialogue. His research focuses on Fāṭima, Zaynab, Karbalāʾ and Islamic history. In 2021, his work was recognised among the most significant studies in Islamic history, and he received Iran’s International World Book Award as a Distinguished Researcher.
