(Anchor) The opening of the Daejeon Metro Line 2 tram, currently being pursued by Daejeon City, is facing a situation where it will be delayed by more than a year. Due to delays in land compensation and extensions of the trial operation period, the opening is now expected to be possible no earlier than the first half of 2030, rather than the originally targeted end of the year after next. (Reporter) During a meeting with local National Assembly members last week, Daejeon Mayor-elect Heo Tae-jeong raised concerns regarding the tram construction project initiated during the 8th popular election term. The Daejeon Urban Railway Line 2 tram project was originally launched with the goal of opening by the end of the year after next, but the relevant departments have reported to the Presidential Transition Committee that a delay of more than one year is inevitable. First, the reason cited is that delays in land compensation procedures around Seodaejeon Intersection have necessitated compulsory acquisition, leading to an expected delay of approximately 8 to 10 months. Another reason is the trial operation period, which has doubled from 6 months to 1 year. Daejeon City had planned to conduct trial operations section by section, but determined that they must be conducted after the entire line opens, estimating that an additional 6 months are required.
