2025 was a tough year for the timber construction industry. That’s what everyone says. But what do they do about it? This is where things get interesting. We asked the four major machinery manufacturers present at DACH + HOLZ International 2026 in Cologne the same questions — Weinmann, Hans Hundegger AG, SCM Woodworking Technology and Essetre (which exhibited alongside Weinig). We wanted to find out what they learned from 2025, what their customers are demanding and what they are betting on in the coming years. What did we find out? That small companies are demanding flexibility, large companies are demanding automation. That software has become at least as important as the machinery. That prefabrication is increasingly migrating from the construction site to the hall. And that no one is selling machinery anymore — everyone is selling solutions.
