Some times the wood hits the neck, and wood chips slowly are eaten away from the neck, making it thinner and prone to braking. That's why it's a good idea to protect the neck of your axe with something metal, like a piece of metal sheet or a piece of wire, that will take the hits, protecting the wooden neck underneath. In this episode I do just that. I wrap some metal wire around the neck of my axe, to protect it from hits. The first axe I show is my other axe, where I placed metal sheet for protection. So in order to wrap the wire around the neck, all you have to do is make one loop on top of the neck, and secure it, and then attach the other end of the wire to a steady point, either on the ground or on something heavy, and start turning the axe on the wire. The wire will be wrapped around the neck, with loops touching one another, and a protective metal cover will be formed. And there you have it. The neck of your axe is protected. I've noticed that black wire of 2 - 3 mm is better than the simple galvanized wire that's sold on stores. You can even use metal sheet from metal canisters, the thin one. And also, after sharpening the axe, gently running the file on top of the edge, clears any roughness and makes it smooth. Thanks for watching, and if you like what you see, consider subscribing.
