Parole che uniscono, parole che dividono: possono gli antichi insegnarci a comunicare? -Goals 4 e 16
Wednesday, June 3, 2026 - 5:30 PM - 6:30 PM - Speakers: Professor Luigi Pellecchi (Department of Law, Political and International Studies) and Professor Marco Settecase (Department of Humanities, Social Sciences, and Cultural Enterprises) What can words do? On the one hand, they can divide, but on the other, they can unite through persuasion. The event begins with Greek tragedy—an ancient laboratory of civil and political debate—to explore the mechanisms of rhetoric, the classical art of persuasion. A dialogue between a classicist and a jurist will guide the audience through the texts to lay bare their argumentative architecture; an actor will lend voice to selected passages, allowing them to dismantle the rhetorical devices and closely observe the strategies of the tragic characters, surprisingly similar to those of contemporary public debate. The goal is to offer critical tools for recognizing and understanding the languages of power and consensus.
