Understanding these three charging phases is important if you want your LiFePO4 battery to charge correctly and last as long as possible. Bulk mode pushes maximum current into your battery until it reaches 14.2V. Absorption holds that voltage for 2 hours so the balancer inside your BMS can do its job. Float then drops back to 13.5V to keep the battery topped up without stressing the cells. Some controllers also include an equalization setting, which is a lead-acid feature that should be disabled for LiFePO4 or set to 14.2V or 13.5V.
