Racial grievance culture 'is driving people apart'
The growing trend towards identity and intersectional politics in the west is fermenting unrest and stirring up racial tension, according to Spiked Online Editor Brendan O’Neill. The people in Britain who try to proclaim the country as foul and racist are inevitably going to “whip up certain forms of violence and certain forms of tension,” Mr O’Neill told Sky News host Andrew Bolt. “They’re playing a dangerous game”. “Someone needs to put a stop to this culture of racial grievance, and get back to the idea of social solidarity, national solidarity and people feeling united rather than divided”. The comments come as UK police have revealed they are investigating the destruction of the Edward Colston statue in Bristol, which was rolled into the harbour during a Black Lives Matter protest on 7 June. The toppling of the Colston monument sparked a nationwide debate over historic statues in the UK - including those of colonialist Cecil Rhodes at Oriel College in Oxford and the founder of the Scouts, Robert Baden-Powell.
