What is it like to live with ankylosing spondylitis? Leo is one of 450,000 people affected by this condition in Germany. Her diagnosis of this chronic inflammatory spinal disease is still relatively recent. Her path to diagnosis is similar to that of many others. It involved numerous doctor's visits and examinations until she finally found rheumatologist Dr. Spiller at Charité Hospital. Dr. Spiller also speaks in this film and explains ankylosing spondylitis. Leo wants to encourage others affected by the disease through her openness. She says: "I would advise anyone who receives a new diagnosis to seek out other affected individuals as soon as possible and not withdraw, but rather try to deal with it openly. Tell those around you about it, including your uncertainties, and seek contact with other affected individuals relatively quickly. It is also incredibly relieving sometimes to talk to someone who knows exactly what it's like."
