PRISTINE (Nearly) 40 year old Otis Elevonic 401 Elevators - Place Alexis Nihon Tower 2, Montreal, QC

Filmed on April 12th, 2022. It's absolutely crazy and hard to believe how old these Series 1s are getting!! As I'm sure most of you know, Otis introduced the Elevonic 401 system all the way back in 1981 and it featured the first fully 100% Computer based/Microprocessor based High Rise Elevator Control system that featured security systems, built in Fire Service, Electronic Sensors, etc. like most elevators do today which while very common now, was GROUNDBREAKING at the time Otis introduced this system as it was a MAJOR step away from what came before it, and it's crazy how Otis was able to pull this off 41 YEARS AGO!!! This particular elevator system (and the building that houses it) dates all the way back to 1983 (according to this: https://www.emporis.com/buildings/112..., and as a result will be turning 40 YEARS OLD NEXT YEAR!!! And despite the age of this elevator system, these elevators DO NOT show their age whatsoever! The Series 1 fixtures and indicators while nearly 40 years old are in SUCH GREAT Condition that they LITERALLY look Brand New! The cabs while likely redone very much suit this elevator system very well and don't look out of place whatsoever and as a result, these elevators look so modern to the point that if I knew nothing about elevators and you told me they were almost 40 years old, I'd probably laugh at you! Not to mention, these elevators run very smoothly and are very fast and very efficient! With that said, despite how excellent their physical condition, according to one of the tenants that rode with me, these elevators are apparently not the most reliable and can be glitchy, which is a sign the Computer chips that run the elevators may be on their way out, a very common reason as to why so many Elevonic 401s are being modernized. I don't think these will be going anywhere anytime soon however, Tower 1 on this Complex (that I did not film) had Old Otises that got a recent Series M2 mod with Identical Cabs to these, which I would assume be when the Cabs on these elevators were redone to what they look like now. While we can never predict the future, I think the Odds are in favor of this Elevator system, at least for now. One thing that did kind of surprise me once I found out the date the building was built is that these didn't have the High Pitched lantern chimes. I'm assume they were replaced via a software update as the low pitched chimes on these are noticably louder and shorter than on most Older Series 1/Elevonic 401 installations. All in all, this is an Absolutely BEAUTIFUL High Rise Elevator System that I have a very hard time believing is as old as it is. The elevators look modern, have many of the same features newer elevators today have (while also being built as well as what came before them), and are very fast and efficient and overall just great elevators that I hope continue to remain this way for years to come. With that all being said, enjoy the video of some VERY NICE, BEAUTIFUL, ULTRA MODERN LOOKING & PRISTINE Otis Elevonic 401s that will be 40 years old in just a year! Installed in 1983.
