Les Misérables: A Comparison of Film Adaptations
In this video essay, I compare some of the major English and French film adaptations of Victor Hugo's novel "Les Miserables" (1862). While my comparison is in no way comprehensive, it hopefully provides a few film historical observations of interest, not least of all when it comes to the overarching question: Why do classics keep getting adapted?
