Country White Gravy - Southern Country White Gravy From Scratch - Super Flavorful!!
Hello my Friends, welcome to my Southern Kitchen! Today recipe I am making some homemade Country White Gravy! Smooth, creamy, and full of Southern flavor; perfect to top on Chicken Fried Steak, Fried Chicken, Mashed Potatoes, Biscuits, Sausage, also great to dip with Chicken Tenders and French Fries! So simple and easy. 1/4 cup (1/2 stick, 4 tablespoons) unsalted butter 1/4 cup all-purpose flour 2 cups whole milk 1 teaspoon black pepper 1/2 to 1 teaspoon kosher salt 1/4 teaspoon onion powder 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder In a cast iron skillet (regular skillet or medium saucepan) over medium heat, add in the butter and let it melt. Once melted, add in the flour and using a whisk, whisk together until well combined so that it is smooth and no lumps. Cook for 3 to 4 minutes to get rid of the raw flour taste. Next slowly add half of the milk to the flour mixture while whisking to keep the gravy mixture smooth. Add in the remaining milk and whisk continuously. Add in the pepper, salt, onion powder and garlic powder. Bring to a simmer and cook for 8 to 10 minutes until the gravy thickens (whisking constantly). Remove from the heat, pour the gravy into a gravy boat or bowl, serve immediately and enjoy.
