Living Today (VS). 1. Read Psalm 80:2-4 (one by one) and answer the questions: a. How is God described? (v. 2 – "a Shepherd... leading like sheep..."; "enthroned upon the Cherubim") b. What does the phrase "enthroned upon the Cherubim" (v. 2) mean? (See 2 Samuel 6:2 – "the ark of God, on which is called the name of the Lord of hosts, who sits between the cherubim" – the King in the sanctuary!) c. What does the psalmist ask for? (v. 3 – "stir up Your power, and come save us"; v. 4 – "restore us") d. How is this possible? (v. 4 – "let Your face shine, and we will be saved!"; see vv. 8, 20 – repetition) e. What does the phrase "let Your face shine" mean – Numbers 6:25; Psalm 31:17? ("let the face of the Lord rise upon you, and let His mercy be revealed" (NIV); "save me by Your mercy") e. When will this request be fully fulfilled? (See Rev. 22:1-4 – "they shall see His face") 2. Which image of God is more vivid in your mind: the Shepherd or the King? II. Finally, Face to Face (PN). 1. Read 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 (one by one) and answer the questions: a. Indicate the sequence of events in this passage (v. 16 – the voice of the archangel and the trumpet of God, the Lord's descent from heaven, the resurrection of the dead in Christ; v. 17 – the union of the resurrected righteous with the living, the rapture of the saved, the meeting with the Lord in the air, the abode with the Lord). b. What does "we who are alive" (v. 15) mean? Did Paul expect to be alive at the time of Christ's second coming? (Referring to those believers who will be alive at the time of the coming; see 1 Cor. 6:14 – “He will raise us up also” – expected to be dead) c. Check the end of v. 15 in other translations (“we will not outstrip” (KAS)) d. Where will God lead those who have died in Jesus (v. 14)? (v. 17 – “We will be caught up in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord”; see John 14:3 – “And you were where I am”) d. What is the intended message of this passage? (v. 13 – “So that you do not mourn [for the dead]”; v. 18 – “Comfort one another”) 2. Which of these prophecies do you most expect to be fulfilled? III. The Bride (VT). 1. Read Revelation 21:2, 3, 9, 10, 22 (in turn) and answer: a. What is the name of the heavenly city Jerusalem in v. 3? ("the tabernacle") b. How does this help us understand v. 22? (The city itself is the temple) c. What is the name of the city in vv. 9 and 10? ("the wife, the bride of the Lamb") d. What is conveyed by the use of this imagery? (v. 2 - "holy" - see Eph. 5:26, 27; "prepared" - see 19:7; "adorned" - see 21:18-21; "for her husband" - see Is. 62:5 - "rejoices," Rev. 19:7 - "let us rejoice and be glad") 2. Do you associate the Kingdom of God with a wedding? IV. Follow the Lamb (SR). 1. Read these texts (one by one) and answer the question: What will life be like in the Kingdom of God? a. Isaiah 25:8, 9 (verse 8 – “death will be swallowed up forever, and the Lord God will wipe away tears”; verse 9 – “let us rejoice and be glad”) b. Rev. 21:4 (“there will be no more mourning, nor crying, nor pain”) c. Rev. 22:1-3 (verse 1 – “a river of water of life” – see Ezek. 47:9 – “everyone will live there”; verse 2 – “the tree of life... for healing” – see Gen. 3:22 – “live forever”; verse 3 – “there will be no more curse”) 2. Read Rev. 21:23-25; 22:2, 5 (one by one) and answer: a. Where will there be no night? (21:25 – "its [the city of Jerusalem's] gates will not be shut by day, and there will be no night there"; 22:5 – "there"; 22:2 – "in the middle of its [the city's] streets") b. Will there be a timekeeping? (22:2 – "every month") 3. What new things have you learned from this section? V. "Come" (Thu.). 1. Read Rev. 22:17, 20 (one by one) and answer the questions: a. Who speaks? (v. 17 – "and the Spirit and the bride speak") b. What does this phrase reveal about the nature of the Spirit? (see 2:7, 11, 17, ...
