If you don't have your practices planned out to the minute, start here. SAMPLE PRACTICE (90 MINUTES) https://drive.google.com/file/d/1xNsc... BLANK PRACTICE SCHEDULE https://drive.google.com/file/d/178LN... After you've planned out your practice, ask someone to watch your practice and log where you are losing time. I would recommend doing at least three practices to really get a sense of where you are losing time. Five practices would be even better. They will need to sit and observe your practice with your planned schedule, audit sheet, and a way to track time. Then, they will have to track how much time in your practice is actually lost to transitions, correcting behavior, explaining/teaching, water/rest, other. Once you know where your time is going you can take steps to limit or eliminate that waste and spend more time practicing. Below is a link to the Practice Time Audit sheet. PRACTICE TIME AUDIT SHEET https://drive.google.com/file/d/1P1oS... If you are losing time due to slow transitions between drills or taking too much time for rest/water, those are some simple fixes. Correcting behavior is usually a connection or trust thing, and that takes a bit more time. After I made adjustments to all of those and had my practices dialed in, the only thing that was going to get me more practice time was for the team to learn our plays outside of the gym. That's when I decided to animate my plays. Thank you! #youthbasketball #basketballtraining #basketballcoach This video breaks down how to beat full-court pressure — both man-to-man and zone presses — using simple, repeatable concepts that work for youth and new players at every level. Core Press-Break Principles I Teach You’ll learn simple rules that you can teach to new and young players: inbound to a guard with space, reverse the ball versus pressure, flash the middle, keep a safety behind the ball, and pass before you dribble. I’ll walk through alignments you can run against both man and zone presses, how to beat traps without turning your back, and how to attack up the floor for layups instead of just “surviving” the press. Zone Press vs Man-to-Man Press I’ll break down how to attack a zone press by putting a player in the middle, keeping options on both sidelines, and using quick passes to move the ball faster than the defense can rotate. Then I’ll show how those same concepts apply to a full-court man-to-man press by creating space, cutting to the ball, screening your own defender, and giving the inbounder easy reads. Why Teach This to Young Players? Presses can make young players feel rushed and out of control. When you give them a clear plan and simple rules, they gain confidence instead of fear. These press breaks help players learn how to stay poised, see the floor, and work together under pressure. Coaches can plug this into any offense they already run — it’s about getting the ball safely into the frontcourt and turning pressure into scoring chances.
