One of our favorite strategies is the Trend Reversal Strategy because it comes closest to predicting the market moves. In Arthur Sklarew words of wisdom, "a chartist's asset lies not so much in being able to forecast how high or low a market will go, or when it will get there, as in being able to identify the direction of a trend and to call the turn of the trend when it comes." The Trend Reversal Strategy is our "chartist" and we need no other noise. For a novice trader, this will be an account saver and an educator. For an advanced trader, this will provide opportunities to size up the moment. We at Robotradingisfun know that the road to becoming a trader is hard and uncertain; with one facing many obstacles in the way: a) Dealing with the market where one is competing against the smartest and brightest minds and astute traders from banks, credit unions, large funds such as mutual or hedge funds, venture capital funds, insurance companies, pension funds, professional traders, career retail traders, and algorithms. b) Never had any formal education in how to invest or trade in the stock market. c) Not knowing where to start given the abundance of platforms, strategies, indicators, studies, opinions, offers, free tutorials, free courses, paid tutorials, paid courses, paid chatrooms. d) Not knowing that as a new trader, one must use a stop loss that instills discipline, risk management, and capital preservation at the most basic level as one enters this zero-sum without mercy game. Many obstacles hinder the path to becoming a consistently profitable trader; a) Not recognizing that the game's odds are stacked against one and in the market makers favor because they use trading systems. b) Not understanding that there is no limit to the risk one is taking (for example, with a $30,000 cash/$120,000 margin account, one can take 1,000 shares of a $100 stock, and if the stock drops down to $10, one just lost whopping $90,000, or in other words all $30,000 of one's hard-earned cash plus in debt for $60,000 to the clearinghouse. c) Dealing with the market that is susceptible to changes and volatility in which 95% of new traders lose their capital or give up. d) Dealing with the market that is extremely hard to anticipate as a new trader and not taking time to practice in a simulator before trading with one's hard-earned cash. e) Not realizing that managing risk preserves capital; thus, one gets a chance to learn and trade another day. With everything above in mind, a new trader needs to start from a place where one feels safe and has the tools that put the odds in one's favor if ever to succeed.
