Pharmacology at Utrecht University

Pharmacology is the field that studies the mechanisms of action of drugs and medical food interventions. Our Pharmacology division has a strong focus on management of non-communicable diseases associated with immune dysregulation. To investigate how to promote immune fitness, the immunopharmacologists at the Utrecht Institute for Pharmaceutical Sciences perform translation research. Investigations on a molecular level are supported by studying for instance by cell cultures, organoids, three dimensional mini organs, performing in vivo experiments with lab animals, setting up small-scale proof of concept studies with healthy volunteers and patients and making sense of big data to disclose new connections and leads for investigations. Our Pharmacology division is part of Future Food, Molecular Immunology, Exposome and Utrecht-Alternative In Vitro Models, four hubs within Utrecht University’s interdisciplinary strategic themes Life Sciences and Pathways to Sustainability.
