The Divine Liturgy in the main cathedral of the monastery was led by His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry of Kyiv and All Ukraine. The Primate was accompanied by permanent members of the Holy Synod of the UOC: Metropolitan Sergius of Ternopil and Kremenets, Head of the Church Court of the UOC Metropolitan Feodor of Kamianets-Podilskyi and Horodotskyi, Head of the Department for External Church Relations of the UOC Metropolitan Meletii of Chernivtsi and Bukovina, Head of the UOC Affairs Department Metropolitan Anthony of Boryspil and Brovary, Head of the Information and Educational Department of the UOC Metropolitan Kliment of Nizhyn and Pryluky; Metropolitans, Archbishops and Bishops of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, clergy of the monastery, Kyiv and guests in the sacred rank. The abbots and nuns of the monastic monasteries of the UOC, as well as numerous believers who came to pray with their Primate, took part in the divine service. The liturgical hymns were performed by the choir of the Kyiv Theological Academy under the direction of Archimandrite Leonty (Tupkal). After the Liturgy, a prayer was offered for peace on the Ukrainian land; for deliverance from the enemy; that the Lord would have mercy on our people and preserve those who are in despair and have lost their homes; for God's blessing on people of good will who help those in need. The Primate asked God for mercy on the Ukrainian people, that the Lord would make the government wise, strengthen the soldiers with courage, free the captives, heal the sick, and give shelter to those who are deprived of their homes. After the dismissal, a long-birthday prayer was pronounced for His Beatitude Metropolitan Onufry on the occasion of his name-day. A welcoming speech to His Beatitude the Archpastor from the Holy Synod was read by Metropolitan Sergius of Ternopil and Kremenets. The Primate thanked for the greetings and addressed those present. His Beatitude the Bishop spoke about the amazing life of the Monk Onuphry the Great, who from childhood completely dedicated himself to the Lord and spent sixty years in a special asceticism in the desert. The Archpastor called for following the example of the Monk Onuphry - although we cannot do this literally and go to the desert to perform an asceticism, "we can enter our heart with our mind and there create a sweet prayer and conversation with God." "Every person can create this saving desert for themselves in their heart, in their soul and enter there with their mind," said the Primate. "What does it mean to create a saving desert? It means to drive out passions, vices, sins from ourselves through repentance. To make this spiritual space of our soul empty, not occupied by any vice. And to go there with your mind, and there to make a sweet prayer to God, to repent, to ask for yourself before God, to ask for your loved ones, for your relatives, for the whole world.
