The Caves of Karahan Tepe | Keçili Tepe's Rock-Cut Temple, Hypogeums & Alignments | Megalithomania

One mile to the north of Karahan Tepe lies the ancient ruins of Keçili Tepe. In this video Andrew Collins and Hugh Newman explore the site (with footage from two visits in 2015 and 2022), and even descend into the underground areas. On the western side are two large carved caves, whilst on the southern slope the locally named ‘snake pit’ is one of several underground beehive hypogeums, covered by monumental holed stones. On the northern summit is a curved stone outcrop, whilst a square 'rock-temple' lies beyond the northern end cut from the bedrock. It faces east with steps on one side. Stone tools and flints have been found at the site, thought to be contemporary with Karahan Tepe. From the southern entrance of Enclosure AD at Karahan Tepe, through the porthole stone to the peak of Keçili Hill (at a bearing of 340 degrees) the setting of Deneb in Cygnus lined up in 9000 BC; as it does at Göbekli Tepe.
