Helena Kanini Kiiru. Descripció de la musicalitat. Black Stick Blues. Sidney Bechet. (subt. CAT)

Black Stick Blues has very peculiar and interesting musical characteristics. Sidney Bechet created, in our opinion, a small masterpiece of swing in this composition because of its musical originality, despite the fact that at first glance this may go unnoticed. We do not know whether Helena Kanini Kiiru was aware of these musical aspects when she created the solo jazz choreography we see in the video. But in any case, we think she managed to capture it very well. In fact, aspects such as harmony, musical structure, patterns... in summary, the musical theory behind each song, are translated into notes that influence us and end up making us dance in a certain way. Dancing is a reaction to music. Therefore, one does not need to understand music, from a theoretical point of view, to be able to dance to it. But we think that if even if only a little, you can understand what's behind it, it's easier to express, enjoy, and probably dance. In this video we have tried to illustrate to what extend dance can be a reflection of music, also understood from a more theoretical point of view, and how a good dancer is able to translate music into movements and, with these movements, reveal aspects of the tune that had previously gone unnoticed. We recommend that you watch the video at least three times, if you have the patience. The first one listening to the music and watching Helena dance, without reading the text below. The second one looking at the text below and the evolution of the structure, and finally you a third one to see how she dances without paying attention to the text again. We think it's worth it. --------------------------------------------- For more information on swing music and musicality visit: https://sites.google.com/site/swingth...
