Is Taqlid Allowed for the Layman | Shaykh Zubair Ali Zai رَحِمَهُ ٱللّٰهُ

📝 Description In this lecture, the speaker explains the ruling on taqlid (blind following) for the ordinary Muslim (al-‘aami). He clarifies that: Taqlid = following without evidence. It is not permissible for the layman or even for the scholar. The duty of the layman is to ask the scholars of Qur’an and Sunnah and act upon evidence, not blindly follow personalities. Qur’anic command: “So ask the people of knowledge if you do not know.” (Qur’an 16:43) Statement of Mu’adh ibn Jabal (رضي الله عنه): “Even if the scholar is rightly guided, do not imitate him in your religion.” Refutations by Shaykh Muqbil (رحمه الله) against those who allowed taqlid for the layman.
