250mm of Rain Put our Property to the Test - Episode 5
250mm of Rain Put Our Property to the Test | Mango Ridge Homestead In this episode of Mango Ridge Homestead, we experienced over 250mm of rain on our property in rural Queensland — and for the first time, we got to see how our land really handles extreme weather. What started as a fun day exploring quickly turned into something much bigger, as flash flooding, overflowing dams, and fast-moving water revealed exactly how water flows across our property. This was a real test, and it showed us where we need to plan, improve, and build smarter as we continue creating a more self-sufficient life. Before the heaviest rain hit, we explored the property as a family, climbing through rock pools and waterfalls forming through the mango orchard — a moment that reminded us exactly why we chose this life. As the rain intensified, our dams filled rapidly and began overflowing, sending water across the land and downstream. Seeing this firsthand has given us a much clearer understanding of how we need to design future water systems, overflow paths, and infrastructure to work with the land, not against it. We also took delivery of our new 6-seater CFMOTO buggy, which is already changing how we move around the property — especially in wet, muddy conditions like this. It’s going to play a big role in how we manage and improve the land moving forward. We’re still learning, still figuring things out, and every week this property teaches us something new.
