La Script | Creadores de unicornios | Domingo Corral, María Contreras y David Martos
Who's behind the biggest hits in Spanish audiovisual production? Today we go behind the scenes of the industry and talk to the creators of some of them. María Contreras, head of Spanish films and series at Prime Video, is emphatic: "Blockbusters are unicorns." She dedicates herself to hunting them down, searching for them among the more than 400 scripts that arrive at her office each year. Domingo Corral, the champion of the last two seasons of Spanish film blockbusters, stopped by to speak clearly and elegantly about his dismissal from Movistar Plus in 2025: “I held a management position, which is a position of trust. And if there's a change in the company's management, the new executives have every right to dismiss the previous executives and hire new ones they trust. I never knew why I was dismissed, nor did I ask, but I believe they were within their rights to do so, and my obligation is to say it's been a pleasure and thank you very much for all these years. And now to start thinking about the future.” He adds: “When I think of Movistar Plus and Telefónica, I feel immense gratitude because I've been very fortunate at this company for eleven years. I've done wonderful things and been surrounded by incredible people. That's what I take away from Telefónica.” Speaking to us, he recounted his life, from his birth in Villafranca del Bierzo, his childhood and youth at a Jesuit school in Seville, where he discovered his love for film, and his early days at Radio Fantasía, a pirate radio station where he hosted a film program called 'La noche americana' (American Night): “I did it mainly to go to the movies for free.” Forty years later, Corral boasts a monumental filmography as an executive producer, including major Movistar series such as 'La peste' (The Plague), 'Antidisturbios' (Riot Police), and 'La mesías' (The Messiah), as well as internationally acclaimed titles like 'Sirat' and 'El ser querido' (The Beloved). And we conclude the program with journalist David Martos, creator of Kinótico, a media outlet focused on the audiovisual industry, and producer of La Script. Kinótico is celebrating its 10th anniversary, and David joined us to reflect on its creation and evolution.
