I Used Blu Tack To Style A Bonsai Tree… Here’s What Happened

Can you train bonsai branches without wire? In this video, I'm using BluTack — yes, the stuff from the stationery drawer — to create a delicate weeping canopy on my prize three-foot silver birch bonsai. Birch bark is notoriously unforgiving: wire bites in fast on young, flexible branches, and on a species where the bark is the feature, those scars are permanent. So I needed something gentle, adjustable, and completely reversible. By placing small weights of BluTack at the very tips of each branch — the point of maximum leverage — gravity does the work, pulling each branch gradually downward as it grows and sets in position. No wire. No scarring. No damage. Just physics and patience. The result is a weeping canopy that mirrors the elegant, cascading silhouette of a full-grown silver birch in an English field — achieved without a single wrap of copper wire. This is a demonstration that in bonsai, the principle always comes before the tool. Enjoy 🙏😁🌳 If you enjoyed this video then please like, share and comment.
