Davinia Rodríguez - Mayr: Medea in Corinto - "Ogni piacere è spento" (with score and subtitles)

Most people will be familiar with Cherubini's Medea popularised in the 20th century by the great Maria Callas. However, equally magnificent, if not superior musically, is Mayr's Medea in Corinto which tackles the same subject matter. Premiering in the late 1813, it boasted a stellar cast comprising some of Italy's finest singers of the era. Of particular significance to this aria is Isabella Colbran, who originated the role of Medea. Later Giuditta Pasta also made this one of her signature roles. It's astonishing that Maria Callas never tackled this opera, given its exquisite music and the intense drama of both the composition and vocalism.
